What is Indoor Air Quality?
As the name suggests Indoor air quality or IAQ is a measure of parameters, which give qualitative and quantitative assessment of the Indoor Air in a plant of office. These parameters are chosen based on human comfort and health. The standards have been prescribed by standardizing bodies like American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), American Society of Mechanical Engineer (ASME) and Government of India (in reference to Indian conditions).
Indoor Air versus Outdoor Air:
It may be a shock to you that, in the recent decades, many scientific evidences has proved that air inside the homes, offices, industries etc. can be more seriously polluted than the outdoor air in even the largest and most industrial cities. The problem becomes graver because of researches which show that people spend around 90 percent of their time indoor. So they are more prone to disease and discomfort from the quality of inside air than outside. In context of a company, majority of work is carried out indoor, so IAQ plays an important role in increasing the productivity of a worker and the company.
Causes of Indoor Air pollution:
- The particulate content like dust, smoke from burning oil, gas, kerosene, coal, wood; radon, asbestos-containing insulation, metal fumes etc.
- Lack of ventilation and air flow or circulation which causes accumulation of above particulate content and also degrades the comfort of human working indoor.
